In 2017 de historical Opera 'Dejima' about the life of Philipp, Franz Von Siebold (1796-1866) will premiere in Nagasaki.

As a preparation for the writing of this Opera Rijndert Woudenberg will be making several trips to Japan to familiarize himself with the traditional Japanese music of this historical period. Based on this field reserach he can create a musical language that will be a reflection on this particular time in (music) history.

He will be taught by four teachers of Japanese traditional instruments. Some of his teachers will finally be the soloists in the Opera.
